A perfect fit – like two puzzle pieces from different boxes that, despite being printed with clashing images, lock together effortlessly. It’s a bit like this with a city or a town, because places aren’t static, they are always under construction.

A home is what you make of it, and maybe your birth town just isn’t so much of – a perfect fit.

Both Martha Hviid and Lucía Quevedo have moved around extensively living in many cities throughout the world. Despite their very different experiences, they share a visible approach to artmaking through their interest in materials and humour. This exhibition brings the artists together to describe these feelings of uprootedness, migration, belonging, and adapting through collaborative and individual artworks.

The resourcefulness of artists on the move is always about working with what’s there, finding alternatives, and keeping necessities well-packed. That’s why, among the presented works, the artists have produced a set of editions made out of potato prints that place objects conveniently for you in a handy airport-security-plastic-bags. Moving around has made both artists search for accessible materials such as the potato. They prefer to move with knowledge and technique than with materials so they can freely follow a train of thought.

Martha Hviid

lives & works in København

Hviid mostly works sculpturally and with installation, dealing with how we sense, feel, interpret and interact with the world around us – this from a perspective of our psychological, neurological, physiological and relational preconditions, and how we consciously and subconsciously communicate these to and with each other.

Hviid has most recently exhibited at Bricks Gallery (København), Kunsthalle Gammelgaard (Herlev), Richas Digest (Köln), OK Corral (Frederiksberg) and Galleri Specta (København).

Lucía Quevedo

lives & works in London

Inspired by humans’ ability to adapt to changing environments, Lucía Quevedo makes enticing and interactive pieces that poke fun at social anxieties and our most familiar feelings through the reinterpretation of well-known appetizing objects.

Lucía Quevedo is a Guatemalan Artist based in London. She is an RCA graduate who has exhibited in various galleries including Tintype (London), SUNDY (London), and Kolonien (København).
